Ms Patty Karuaihe- Martin
Dear Esteemed Delegates and Colleagues, on behalf of the OESAI Management Board and Secretariat, it is my humble honor to write this Welcome Note to all our Delegates attending the landmark OESAI 42 nd Annual Conference being held in Kigali, Rwanda . This year, we are expecting delegates from across the Globe to participate in the Conference and I hope that everyone attending will have a wonderful experience in scenic Kigali. On behalf of the OESAI Management Board I would like to thank the Rwanda Insurance Community for agreeing to host this year’s conference. Rwanda, with its rich history and triumph over adversity is a great example of how nations and industries can overcome challenges, to create bright futures for our communities.
This Year’s Conference has been aptly themed “Creating the future of insurance NOW “ taking cognizance of the Internet of Things revolution that is impacting insurance business and changing trends in regional and global insurance product development and customer expectations . This is a Theme that resonates throughout the Continent today as insurers grapple with the wave of regulatory changes, technical skills shortages, and innovations that are impacting the very existence of insurance business as we have known it. As an Industry, it is time that we embrace these changes and formulate strategies to prepare the industry for the future.
The events that are taking place on the global stage, provide African insurers and reinsurance companies
with immense opportunities to stay relevant and in fact to be the catalyst for the changes that we want
to see happening in our countries and on the continent. It is time for the insurance industry to rise up
and to play a greater role in the affairs of our industry. Insurance companies across Africa hold immense
amounts of capital that should be used to sustain and revive our economies, create programs for socio-
economic development that will bring our people out of poverty and develop our industrialization
May I invite you to attend the OESAI 42 nd Annual Conference, so that when we leave Kigali, we have concrete ideas and plans set in motion, of what each of us will do to make the difference we want to see in our Industry and in our Countries.
Mr Alex Bahizi
On behalf of the Rwanda Local Organising Committee for the 42ndOESAI Annual Conference, and the Rwanda Insurance community, I would like to extend this warm welcome to you for visiting the 42nd OESAI Annual Conference website. I trust that as you register for the OESAI conference, you are as excited as we are about the upcoming conference in Kigali, Rwanda on the 25th to the 28thAugust.
The Insurance Association of Rwanda, ASSAR Board and Secretariat are excited to be welcoming delegates to the 42nd OESAI Annual Conference. The organisation has been hosting major insurance events over the past years and we are confident that this partnership with OESAI will be the beginning of the start for organizing and conducting similar conferences of scope and scale that benefit Rwandan Insurance Market as well as regional and international insurance business.
In the past 25 Years, like majority of other economic sectors in Rwanda, the insurance sector grew and attracted local, regional and international investors taking the number of Insurance Companies from just 2 to 14, majority of them being non-life Insurance companies. This growth in sector investments was a result of stable macro- economic environment, the ease of doing business drive initiated and championed by the Government of Rwanda, corruption free business framework, prevailing security across the whole territory of Rwanda, emerging market by all parameters, clear enabling regulatory environment and all in the fastest growing economy in Africa.
Rwanda and specifically Kigali was recognized as the fourth most preferred African destination for Meetings and Conferences (MICE) in Africa in 2019 and as ASSAR we are proud to have played a contributory role in bringing insurance conferences to Kigali, Rwanda-the beautiful country of a thousand hills.
Our relationships with OESAI goes a long way back, as we hosted the OESAI conference that resulted in the Organisation’s turnaround in 2012. We are delighted to be working with OESAI again this year to bring to the region, this 42nd Edition of the OESAI Annual conference. The Board and Secretariat of ASSAR therefore cordially invite you to complete your registration and to join us for the up-coming conference.
The Topics and Speakers we have chosen for this conference resonate with many of the insurance executives and companies in the region. I would like to thank the Conference paper presenters and panelists who are going to make this conference one of the most value adding insurance conferences in the region this year. We are looking forward to having insurance executives from all corners of Africa and beyond, as Kigali has become a convention hub for African businesses and it was not a coincidence that, the African Continental Free Trade Area was signed in Kigali, one of the most beautiful and clean cities in the World.
